A model for spontaneous parity breaking
In this paper we present a left-right symmetric model for elementary particles. The model is based on the group SU(2)L ⊗ SU(2)R ⊗ U(1) with new mirror fermions. A minimal set of Higgs particles is proposed in order to break this symmetry down to U(1)em. The model can accommodate neutrino oscillations and a consistent pattern for charged fermion masses. An important consequence of the model is t...
متن کاملFermion Masses and Hierarchy of Symmetry Breaking
We suggest that the breaking of a symmetry unifying the families of fermions occurs in stages. We consider the total Lagrangian to be invariant under the group SU(2) xU(1) x G, where G is a discrete group. The Higgs potential is, however, invariant under SU(2) xU(1) xE, where E 3 G. In a first stage c is broken to a subgroup H C 5, but H is not contained in G. The u and d quarks are naturally m...
متن کاملSymmetry Breaking, Chiral Dynamics, and Fermion Masses
Spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) is one of the main paradig.ns of particle physics. I will briefly review 1) the general history of SSB, 2) the universal features and descriptions of gap formation and chirM dynamics in the BSC-type mechanisms in condensed matter, nuclear, and particle physics, and 3) some open problems including the mass hierarchy in the Standard Model and beyond.
متن کاملSpontaneous Breaking of R-parity
So far most attention to the study of supersymmetric phenomenology has been made in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) 1 with conserved R-parity . R-parity is a discrete symmetry assigned as Rp = (−1)(3B+L+2S), where L is the lepton number, B is the baryon number and S is the spin of the state. If R-parity is conserved all supersymmetric particles must always be p...
متن کاملSupersymmetry Breaking, Fermion Masses and a Small Extra Dimension
We present a supersymmetric model in which the observed fermion masses and mixings are generated by localizing the three generations of matter and the two Higgs fields at different locations in a compact extra dimension. Supersymmetry is broken by the shining method and the breaking is communicated to standard model fields via gaugino mediation. Quark masses, CKM mixing angles and the μ term ar...
